Launch of the European Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day
August 10, 2017
The initiative of the European Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day will kick-off on Tuesday, 26 September 2017 at PCR London Valves, the world's largest educational meeting focused on the care of patients with valvular heart disease.
Heart valve disease is common but only a few people are aware of it. This is why an awareness day is needed to ensure that more people know about the disease, its symptoms, treatment and management of heart valve disease in Europe.
At the kick-off meeting representative, the initiative will be presenting a 5 A action plan, consisting of improving the main problems linked to the diagnosis, treatment and management of heart valve disease.
- Awareness – Provide information
- Ask – Educate people
- Adapt – Need for early diagnosis
- Access – Educate policy-makers and healthcare professionals
- Action – Encourage better quality of life
This initiative was inspired and follows the example of the US, where the first awareness day was first introduced on February 22, 2017.
The countdown has started, September 2018 will officially hold the first European Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day. Start thinking about how you can get involved by raising awareness and ultimately save lives. For more information, check out our Get Involved page.
